Welcome to The Canine Behavior Blog
Every few weeks I will post a new photograph, or photo series, that portrays a complex canine interaction. You are invited to respond by describing any behaviors you can identify in the photo. In a week or two, I will post the same photograph with arrows overlaid, and a descriptive key. The previous weeks’ photos will remain in an archive so that anyone who joins us later on can see the photos and read comments.
I am inviting you to join me in a lively discussion about deciphering canine behavior. Each photograph represents a single moment in time. When canids interact, their body language portrays rapidly changing information about their emotions and intent. Occasionally, I will post a video clip, that captures the action of dogs interacting.
Canine Behavior: A Photo Illustrated Handbook, which includes 1000 photographs, will enhance your knowledge of canine behavior and body language. The photos I offer in my blog are not in the book. I continue to collect pictures of dogs interacting. You are welcome to submit photos to me for inclusion in the blog. I am especially grateful to Marco De Kloet, for his generosity in allowing me to use his photographs in this context. Please respect his copyrights to all photos published here under his name.
Please send your photos to: Barbara.Handelman@Valley.Net. I will let you know if I plan to use your photo in the blog, or for other educational purposes. Initially, please send pictures at 72 dpi. If I plan to use the photo I will contact you and ask that you send a high-resolution copy (300 dpi).
