Pan is the Smooth Collie, Bronte is the Airedale.  They are both neutered males, approximately 18 months-old.

    This would appear to be play to me. I am so new to attempt defining why however. Part of my comments come from living with smooth collies myself and seeing this sort of play between them. It is generally accompanied by some vocals as well!

    in the upper photo, this still appears to be play, as it began; bodies are loose, tails loose, tho Pan shows a C-commissure.

    in the lower-photo, Pan is getting irritated - eyes are hard, body is tight, C-comm is more pronounced, and gums are everted.
    Bronte is responding by leaning away from Pan’s head + teeth -
    perhaps he has just done something too rough, or play has gone on too long, and arousal is simply elevated.
